Need Some HELP-'37 Coupe In Ohio
.
Hey Boys & Girls ....A couple of months ago, because of health reasons and my age, I sold all three of our "play cars", one of which was a very stock, un-restored '37 Ford DeLuxe coupe. It went to the brother of a dear friend, and is now located in Woodville, Ohio. His name is Bill R. and he has known this car since shortly after I bought it a little over 20 years ago, as he saw it on one of his semi-annual trips down here to visit his brother. When Bill learned that the car was for sale, he bought it sight unseen. And there were no surprises when he flew down here in October to visit his brother. I had given the car to Bill's brother/my friend Richard, to do some maintenance and getting it back into a reliable, safe driver for Bill to enjoy driving the Ohio countryside with some of his old car buddies. One thing that Richard did was completely rewire the car with ALL new harnesses, so under the dash is clean and orderly. That brings us to some help needed in Ohio. We had the car shipped up there the last week in November. And until now, the weather up there has been reasonably nice in their part of Ohio, and Bill has been running the wheels off of that thing. When the car left Houston, all of the gauges worked perfectly except for the temperature gauge. Good temp gauges don't grow on trees, but I found a really nice one advertised by a wonderful Ford Barner, and I bought it and had it shipped directly to Bill in Ohio. So, here's what we need help with. Bill is certainly knowledgeable with things mechanical/electrical and such, but Bill is 79 years old and a lot out of shape. In other words, Bill is no longer capable of slithering under the dash, removing the old gauge from the instrument cluster, and installing the new gauge in the cluster. I'm asking if there may be anyone in or near the Woodville, Ohio area that is familiar enough with these old Fords that would feel comfortable (and willing) to crawl under that dash to remove the gauge, and replace with the new gauge? Woodville is probably 15-20 miles southeast of Toledo, and roughly two miles south of I-80. Bill's place is about another three miles south of Woodville on Ft. Findley Road, out in the country. I've been there...nice and quiet and friendly! I'm sure Bill would be willing to remunerate someone reasonably to accomplish this for him. Pictures of the rear of a '37 cluster and the gauge mounted with three tiny screws, the actual NEW gauge itself, and the raggedy ol' coupe that this is going in. The fourth pic is just a representation of a '37 DeLuxe dash layout. Anyone interested or with questions can PM me. Thank you, folks. Dick D (DD) . |

I would be glad to help, but I am 3 hours away in SE Indiana. Have him drive that thing over to the Foundation in Auburn and get one of those young whippersnappers to change it for him. While they are working on it, he could take in the museum.

I didn't even notice till Lawson brought it up how he has the sender stuck down in that gumbo. Now that's about my favorite thing I've seen all day.

Dick,
I would contact Goller's Hot Rod Shop, about 40 miles West of Bill, at the corner of Kammeyer Rd.(78) and Christy (164), about half way between US 6 and Defiance. Phil is a good guy and will treat you right. |

If I was back home, I'd take a drive and do it for him . . . but I'm out in South Dakota at the moment. Hopefully you find somebody to help him out. Best of luck!

Patience, folks! Having patience can sometimes pay-off handsomely. All this time, Bill has been running the wheels off of this little coupe that I sold to him last November....without an OPERATIONAL temp gauge. Well, my friend Richard and his wife got in the motorhome last week and drove up to Ohio to attend a memorial for an old friend, and to spend a couple of weeks with brother Bill out in the country. Sure enough, I got an e'mail this morning that my bud Richard has managed to slither up under the dash on the '37 and R & R the inop gauge for the new one we found. Totally successful transplant, and it works good, too. Richard says the coupe is running better than it ever has. Coop Last edited by V8COOPMAN; 09-22-2022 at 03:15 AM. |

I like happy endings. And I still don't buy the "Plain boiling water" explanation. Looks like maybe okra. Shore ain't grits, too dark. LOL

Lawson....You're missing the OBVIOUS. That pot is black inside. You merely have the bubbles from boiling breaking the surface of plain ol' water inside a black pot. It doesn't get any simpler than that! How long does it take you to cook your grits in Georgia, Lawson? Five minutes, or twenty minutes? Coop |

What grits? Out west someone says grits, he's talking sandpaper.
