29 Model A - accelerator issues
Hello All
For some reason I am not getting full throttle on my accelerator pedal or via the hand throttle. I changed nothing, what could be the issue ? |

It is all visible. Work with a friend and see where there is lost motion or bent connection.

Something has to be hanging up. I would imagine a right hand drive has some linkage that we on the other side of either pond arent familiar with.

Re: 29 Model A - accelerator issues
I have needed to bend the lever on the accelerator assembly that bolts to the back of the engine on some of my model A's . There is no adjustment that I can think of other than bending the lever .

Re: 29 Model A - accelerator issues
I would check that your pedal is not getting fouled at the floorboard hole & mat. Also open the bonnet ,pull down on throttle lever & check arm movement at steering column & you should see what is happening. NZ, where we drive on the right/ correct side [ & upside down]. Cheers, Tom in NZ.

Re: 29 Model A - accelerator issues
when you press in the gas pedal, make sure the rod assembly goes underneath the accelerator mounting bracket on the rear of the engine or you wont have full throttle

Re: 29 Model A - accelerator issues
This problem only happened as it was working alright before.
Using the hand throttle I can only move it till about half way as it meets resistance and stops. I will investigate will these suggestions |

Re: 29 Model A - accelerator issues
The RHD setup does not have the throttle bracket at the back of the engine the RHD assembly is attached to the steering column . The bracket at the back of the engine is used to activate the starter .

Re: 29 Model A - accelerator issues
There is a slightly V shaped arm on the drivers side of the accelerator assembly that the short accelerator lever link fits on . There is a sharp pointed end on the other side of this arm that lays over the accelerator pedal shaft that pulls the pedal down when the gas lever is pulled down . Bending the pointed end of the lever in a way that narrows the V will give more movement of the accelerator pedal when the gas lever is pulled all the way down . I have found that bending the lever to slightly close the V shape is needed when the lever doesn't completely open the throttle . Throttle assemblies can be a pain to properly set up . Who knows what all has happened to the throttle assembly over the past ninety years . Many times a person will think that all is well until they take a closer look at the accelerator assembly and linkages .

Maybe one of you guys could post a photo so people understand what you are working with. I only know of one column that has the RHD throttle on it, but it is more then a few miles away.
