Glove Box for everything except gloves
Did you ever think about the glove box? I have never thought about it, but can truthfully say that I have never put a pair of gloves in the glove box, and doubt if many have done so. I use mine for the owner's manual and my registration and maybe a pair of sun glasses and a pen or pencil, or maybe a map or camera. What other things are commonly put in the glove box?

Re: Glove Box for everything except gloves
I've heard them called "jockey boxes" too, but I can't imagine a jockey in there. As long as were on the mysteries subject, why is there two U's in the word "vacuum"? I don't know how much more of this I can take...........

Back in the day, both men and women wore gloves when they drove. I guess that is because they could get a better grip on the steering wheel. I use gloves when I drive my 35 PU, the wheel is sort of skinny and I get a better grip on the wheel when wearing gloves. I would surmise that is how a glove box got its name.

Lawson!! You dirty ol' bugger! I kinda like the way you think tho'
Not a lot of room for those antics in the pickup so just a few CD's and spare fuses and passes to the next car show..

The closed types did have door pockets, but not always on all doors. My 1929 Tudor only has one on the r/h door. Some 1931 sedans had a large pocket & flap on the back of the front seat & none on the doors. Other 4 door Sedans had pockets on all doors or only on the rear doors. The Business Coupe of 1928'29 had a storage pocket on the cowl kick panel. As already mentioned, closed truck cabs had a metal ''dispatch box'' in the rear quarter panel. Clear as mud? |
