I have a mig welder and I would totally weld that if it was on my car. I'm not a pro welder by any stretch, but after welding you can grind/file it down and paint it. Nobody will ever know. Except you.

I welded mine up (Ford included crack in purchase price at no extra charge) 25 years ago.

It's times like this, that makes the 66% oil filter conversion practical.

This is, except for the carb and air filter, a stock 52 EAB Fordomatic. ( now someone is gonna inform me that Fordomatics ain't EAB's ).

Fordomatics are EAB's too, but 8BA heads aren't.

What about '51's? Looks like you've had some "replacement" going on in the engine compartment.

Heck, I may have one in my stash. PM if interested. About to go back into work rotation, so patience is a virtue.

Thanks for the photos. Most of this is already covered. The oil filter cannisters did not have a drain at least since 1949. Starting in 1950, the cannister bolts to the head, so there is no intrusion into the water jacket. Prior to '50, the cannister mounted under head bolts. Also, this break on the lower mounting tab is common. I've seen several of them welded.

I also drain the filer with every oil change with a suction gun, then paper towels to clean out the residue.

I used my wife's turkey baster for my first oil/filter change on my '38, and like you, paper towels for the final cleanup, at which point I discovered a heavy buildup of a silvery colored mud in the bottom of the cartridge. Nothing against the previous owner, lead additives were common practice back then.

My ‘50 had the same silvery mud in the bottom.....I took the canister off to make cleaning easier......I use the methods as others above.....draw the old oil out and wipe it clean.....Mark

I have to ask, how did she react when she found out?
