1940 Ford question
When I pull the emergency brake / parking brake handle it does not stay in position. I have to reach below it and push the little lever into place to hold it. Apparently there is some sort of a spring that engages it. I am requesting where to look for a diagram of the parking brake lever assembly so I can see what I have to look for to make the repair.
Thanks in advance for any and all responses. Last edited by Jay in Mass; 04-13-2018 at 10:06 AM. |

Re: 1940 Ford question
I don't have it in front me me but I assume the Ford Chassis parts book should have a diagram of the parking brake system and its components.

Re: 1940 Ford question
there is a spring that activates the lock lever on the handle, you will need to remove the handle from the dash and you will probably be able to see where the spring is, they have a tendency to break off at the piece that goes under the lock lever. I found a spring at the hardware store that I could modify to make it work

Re: 1940 Ford question
Seth I don't have access to the parts book.
19Fordy Your pictures gave me a good idea of what the parts look like. Alan I'm going to drop the unit down and open it up. Then I should be able to get an idea of what I need to make. Most likely it is a spring. Thanks guys for all the help. Jay |

Ken
Without taking it apart yet, I'm pretty sure that it is a broken spring also. After I do get it apart, I'm just going to make something that works. Jay |
