Back Window in 31 CCPU
I just finished putting new glass in my 31 Closed Cab Pickup. This has to be one of the dumber patents that Henry ever devised. I can't imagine how this was done on the assembly line. I even taught myself some new words doing this....but it is in now.

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
I just sealed up the rear window in my '30 CCPU and had the same trouble. I figured they put the window in before assembling the cab. A poor arrangement, as you say.

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
I think they had special wrenches to hold the nuts.

Perhaps a two man job.

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
I did make a special wrench, but it can be done by using a slightly off set open end wrench, insert the nut and hold in place with a piece of tape. It is a quick learn!

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
Did you use the 4 "C" shaped corner pieces?

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
I easily installed my last three Model A rear CCPU windows complete with all of their "C" pieces. I lightly installed three of the top row screws/washers/nuts and then I hung the window/frame assembly from the body by the three screws. I installed the rest of the screws/washers/nuts using a small needled nosed vise grips to hold each nut as I turned the screw in against it. The small needle nose vise grips have curved jaws that are curved to the left so that they could reach around the window frame and hold the nuts tightly against the body flange & flat washer. It only takes me from 15 to 20 minutes to install all of the screws/washers/nuts in the CCPU frames' rear window assembly. On Ford's assembly line, I would think that they got this operation down to less than 5 minutes. In the past, I have used the end wrench to install the small nuts but it was nothing but grief, and a vocabulary builder. I don't do it that way any more.......

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
I did use the C shaped corner braces. They were the easiest since I hot glued the nuts to the C shaped pieces and then the screws lined up and went in easy. The lower screws were the hardest as there appears to be less room and the wood cross piece is so close. Old shakey hands did not help in the least. Neither did the slight tweak in the window frame cover.

Re: Back Window in 31 CCPU
The 6 inch Bent Nose vise grips for installing the hidden nuts on the CCPU rear window that I referred to in an above post is pictured below. They work like magic.
