The USA 28-29 Sport Roadster...
To anybody's knowledge, is there any proof that Ford produced a 1928-1929 USA "Sport" Roadster?
If the designation "Spt. Roadster" kept appearing on a USA dealership ledger ALONG with the designation "Roadster"...what would that tell you? There is no known USA Ford advertisement for one that I know of. Just the one from the Canadian production. Hmmmmmmmmm. Pluck |

i think that was going to be the name of the DLX Phaeton, and they did call the one that was made of Edsel the Sport Roadster if my knowledge is correct?

Re: The USA 28-29 Sport Roadster...
I saw once on flebay, someone advertising a Canadian only optioned up 29 (I believe) "Sport Roadster" Had a folding windshield, cowl lights, luggage rack and other shiny bits. I sort of remember (do not hold me to this) them having some kind of support documentation with it as well, dealer invoice? Maybe it was a dealer tossing options on a car to increase profit.

@Mark, No the one I remember was a 28-29 roadster dolled up, unique feature was the folding windshield, They said it was some special Canadian model or only available in Canada features.

I believe that a 28 or a 29 "Roadster Sport" was a roadster with a rumble seat verses a "Roadster Business" which had a trunk.

Re: The USA 28-29 Sport Roadster...
Here's anaother two cents worth: In Floyd Clymer and Leslie Henry's "Model A Album", pages 12 and 13 there are pictures of 1928 Standard roadsters, then the designation 40-A (Sport) and 40-A (Business). The sport roadsters all seem to have rumble seats while the business roadsters do not. Of course the rumble seat could have been a dealer-installed option - $35.00, if I recall. In the Indianapolis branch service letters, there is a caution to dealers being careful when returning deck lids that had been removed for rumble seat installation. I could not find any 1928 or '29 "deluxe" roadsters nor could I find any pictures of open cars (28-29) with folding windshields. That accessory would to be a rare find! The same source designates all 35-A Phaetons as "standard". Jump on this one if it's wrong!

Re: The USA 28-29 Sport Roadster...
I am tending to agree here with Mr. Model A Speedster and Mr. Mountain Dew. That Ford's designation of "Sport Roadster" was with a rumble seat and that which was not was just a "Roadster".
Yes, to find a 28-29 USA Roadster with folddown front window, not to say there arn't any, would be a rare find indeed. Thanks. Pluck |

Re: The USA 28-29 Sport Roadster...
A photo does exist depicting a roadster at Ford Auto Show, San Francisco Oct. 12-15 1929. Amongst cars there can be seen one with fold down screen, fender lights, side mount spare, top boot & coloured fenders etc.
Have read that 4 or so were sold in California. |

Re: The USA 28-29 Sport Roadster...
Thank you for the links forever4, I've wondered were that was since first seeing the photos back in the 1960's in a Floyd Clymer book. What a sad end to such a good looking car, I hope someone with the vision and funds to restore it gets it. Bob
