Canadian GL4 140 gear oil
Hoping some Canadian hot rodders can help me out. I’m trying to find GL4 140 gear oil for my three speed and banjo but I’m striking out every where I call. Has anyone in Alberta or across Canada found a dealer/distributor?
Thanks Chris |

Re: Canadian GL4 140 gear oil
I've had no such luck in BC. Everything I can find available is GL5 even if it says GL4. Sometimes sta-lube gl4 can be ordered from Amazon.com but it's not always available for shipping to Canada. I ended up going with GL1 for my trans, purchased from local kenworth truck dealer who is a chevron dealer/ supplier. They didn't stock it but will order it in for you.

If CRC Sta-Lube 140 GL4 is available up that way then it will do. It's available through NAPA auto parts down here.

Re: Canadian GL4 140 gear oil
I bought my GL4 gear oil at Peavy Mart in Edmonton a few months ago. I'm using it in both the differential and R10 overdrive in my 1952 Ford F-1.

Napa in Canada can't get some of the same products offered in the USA. The part number pulls nothing up and searching shows nothing in there system. Just my experience with Napa in BC, maybe Alberta is different?

Re: Canadian GL4 140 gear oil
GL3 was the original mild EP specification. When the API changed the specification to GL4, GL3 spec was rendered obsolete. This doesn't mean that some company can't use that spec though.

Sports Car Central in Edmonton is the Penrite dealer for Canada. I bought my steering box lube from them and had it shipped to Ontario. Penrite lists a GL4 gear oil. Might be worth a look if you can't find anything else.

Have you tried Crappy Tire? ;-)
They say this TDH stuff complies with API GL-4: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/m...-0280215p.html I'm using it in my '48 Ford 3-spd tranny. |
