Default 32 Ford PIckup Wind Noise

As I'm going down the highway today in my 32 pickup driving into a 40 mph wind I was thinking how much wind noise there was in a brand new 32 pickup. I've got a new windshield seal, windshield is as tightly closed as I can get it, some good weather seal along the front edge of the door and my windlace is tight. On a day like today if I'm going a long distance I need noise canceling headphones. This is my 5th 32 pickup and they all had wind noise. Most of my noise seems to be coming thru the windshield area?

I think that's the way Henry built them. 40 mph in a '32 pickup? I don't think they planned on that.

When I built any of my 32s over the years I always added to the floor board edges to fill those gaps and seal the floor. I didn't build this truck so maybe I need to pull off the original kick panels and check?

My 28 ccpu is also very noisy inside,So, I have a box of ear plugs in the cab and it makes all the difference.
Im off away in my 34 3w next week and have put a box in it as well.

If the #1 floorboard side felt pieces are installed along with the webbing on the perimeters of both the #1 and #2 floor boards, the sponge rubber seals are installed around the pedals and steering column and transmission shift lever, and all the plugs and grommets are where they belong on the firewall as original, there are no openings for the wind or sound. However, there is no insulation anywhere except in the firewall pad so the roof, doors, and the rest of the cab make great sounding boards.

Ah, but Gary's talking about heading into a 40 mph wind plus the 32's speed. Wind like that's pretty common here and makes the air speed 80-100 mph in our cars. Gets pretty noisy!

David; Thanks. I've always made it a point to seal everything up when I built a 32. I didn't do this truck so I'll take off the original kick panels and check for leaks. I have no idea what is under the rubber mat or the floor edges against the cowl panels. This is not a high point restored truck, just a daily driver beater.

Because of the vertical windshield and rain visor your always going to have some wind noise above 25 mph. Tim

I agree with Tim. My Model A Tudor has always had a lot of windshield area noise. I have driven it cross country several times and learned to live with it.

Me to, my 5 deuce pickup. In my first post I was asking if anyone on here had any wind noise experience in an original like new deuce pickup.

And the newer 30's trucks are plenty noisy too.

In my 32 trucks I noticed that wind was coming thru the A pillar door gap. We added some more weatherstripping and help a bit. We then tightened up the hinge area to close that gap. It helped a bunch and much more tolerable

Even in my 41 pickup we were amazed at how much more wind noise there was after we put in the Mitchell OD and started cruising the freeways. other then one rust hole the size of a quarter it is a very tight cab. Tim

A good pair of ear plugs will turn that sucker into a Cadillac.
