Re: Where did you put yours?
Neckers nob here in Washington state. I have my dad's on our Tudor. He told me they were illegal here because a man's French cuff links would catch. I'm a rightie but find that the 10 o'clock position works best for me when I'm on a long haul (freeway). I simply hold it with my finger tips and just Toole along.

Re: Where did you put yours?
I am left handed - so my Brodie/Suicide/Spinner knob was placed at 10 0'clock on the steering wheel.
I have not had one on the car/steering wheel since 1963, and would never have one on the car again. |

Re: Where did you put yours?
As Mitch said, it is tough on the tank mount, besides leaving marks in the steering wheel, and being something to stab you in an accident. I had a knob with a girly picture that I bought when I was in the 7th grade. It was probably Marilyn Monroe, and I don't know what ever happened to that knob, but I paid 79 cents for it at the local Western Auto store.

Re: Where did you put yours?
Back in the 1960's our brief high school driver training course was taught by an old and long-retired Oregon state cop. He called it a "suicide knob" and made it clear that it's use was limited to a certain class of society and it presence during a traffic stop prompted law enforcement to look more closely at the contents of the vehicle, especially the driver. A friend that had one on his hot rod 38 Buick took it off immediately.

Re: Where did you put yours?
I always thought it funny that they were considered unsafe. When I was still a teenager I drove an order-picker in a cotton mill warehouse and it didnt even have a steering wheel, just an arm with one of those knobs on the end, and yes, you needed that other hand to work the controls.

Re: Where did you put yours?
Now days if the police see something wrong you find yourself flat on the ground in the street or dirt with a gun or tazer pointed at you. Is that worth an illegal accessory? No more Mayberry!

Re: Where did you put yours?
Check the website "suicideknob.net" and you can see a list of all states and their law (with references) for these. Here in Ohio, there is no law. Check yours if need be.....better safe than ticketed.

Re: Where did you put yours?
In New Jersey, we called them "lovers knobs". We put them at the 10 o'clock position so the right arm could go around the girl sitting close by your side. No seat belts of course. They still sell them at our local John Deere store in nice JD colors.

Re: Where did you put yours?
I have been following this thread and was surprised that one of my sons picked this up at Sears as a Christmas present for me. I thought they were outlawed in Virginia. Tempted to put it on our roadster but it will likely go on the lawn tractor since we have a lot of trees to mow around.

Re: Where did you put yours?
Besides my Model "A", I ride a Harley, own three vehicles with dual exhaust including a '51 Ford six with a split manifold and glass packs (and a "neckers knob"). Am I too much of a low life to be on this forum???
