Default Transmission Shop near Tucson

I need to find an expert to rebuild my '40 Lincoln transmission which pops out of second gear every time that I back off of the throttle. Have any of you had a good experience with somebody in Southern Arizona that you would recommend?

In addition to having the transmission rebuilt also check/replace the pilot bushing/bearing in the flywheel, this is the 1st support for the input shaft in addititon to the bearings in the transmission.

I'm in CA so not aware of AZ shops.

Good luck Paul J.

Thanks good tip, I am also going to replace the clutch assembly while I have this thing in pieces. This whole process started by removing the rear axle/non-functioning Columbia two speed to have John Connelly do his magic.

Ron, I don't know of anyone in your specific area, but if you don't find a shop near you (who has experience with these transmissions) you can certainly send it to our shop here in Ohio. I assume yours is the non-overdrive transmission since you have the Columbia. We have done those units before and its pretty straightforward.

I had the same problem with a Ford box put together from used parts... I got myself a replacement detent spring- the one that goes in the trans top- that was stronger. A LOT stronger. Took wire cutters and fit as much spring in as would fit. It does not make the shifting harder, and no more dropping second on deceleration...

And, it was real cheap.

Not on topic but... I found it easy to make a transmission shipping container using a plastic storage box with plywood floor and sides wire-tied through drilled holes. Wire tie the tranny to the floor of the box and make sure it is crush proof with plywood uppers for the four sides. Wire tie the top on, and you're good to go!

If you are a V-8 Club member check your roster for members in Tucson. I'll bet there is somebody there that would know of a good shop.

I suggest you call and talk to Van Pelt. There are shops in Tucson that will work on your transmission, but I believe you will be satisfied with Van Pelt.
