Default Hershey 2017 advice needed

Never been out there before, always wanted to go, and we're making plans now to attend. Looking forward to going out to the NE next fall.

Questions: Do any of you fellows have a suggestion on a good place to stay that is fairly close? Maybe even a B&B? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated

PM me if you would rather not comment here. Thanks in advance!

Most of the hotels, motels are filled up a year in advance. Suggest if you find a vacancy anywhere within 30 miles, grab it now.

It's true all of the places close to Hershey park are taken all ready.
I've been staying in Harrisburg Pa. it's about 20-30 minute ride to the meet.
You may have better luck looking for a place in Harrisburg.
Good luck

as John says, tons of rooms in Harrisburg and reasonable. (around 100. bucks)

If money is no issue, then there are places avail right around Hershey.(200-350.)

dont know about the "free" part, but they do rent camper spaces. with that said, there are a few people who do rent out space including the AACA Museum which I think is 35. bucs a night.

I haven't been there for about 8 or 9 years, but when I went I always parked on the south side of Hershey Park, next to the railroad tracks, and I slept in the front seat of my car. There were other cars and a few RV's that did the same thing, but I wonder if that space is still open to do that?

Tom ,I used to park there too, it has been changed, no more parking
i now sublet a booth rear section on the field, sleep in the car if I have to

There is rv parking, it costs, don't know how much, but it isn't like 30+ years ago when they collected 5$ to park and sleep in the nursery amongst the trees

Well, that sure is a bummer.
The first year I went, we could even park on the side of the road. Sure didn't last long though before everything was closed off and costing money to park.

The cheapest way to see Hershey is to rent a space as a vendor, bring a bunch of old parts that you want to get rid of and sell them. You can sleep, grill, eat on the field and there are "Facilities". This solution involves a certain amount of inconvenience, but with good weather it isn't bad. I did this for three days last year , 2015

We do this every year. Bring an enclosed trailer full of parts, put the parts on the tables to sell, then set up bunks in the trailer to sleep in. Great fun!

Last year (2015) my wife and I stayed at a B&B in Anneville, which is about 8 miles and 15 minutes away. Really nice town.

Motorhome camping is available for $50/night in the fields north of the highway for 1-5 nights. No reservations, just show up monday or tuesday.

Jeff, there is a REALLY NICE B&B in Mount Joy, PA that we've stayed at. A little pricey, but an excellent B&B. About 20 miles south of Hersey Park. Still has rooms available. Here's the link: http://www.cameronestateinn.com

Most people would want a shower and not want to live like a hermit.i have always stayed within 5 miles for about $80 a night. You can tell the people that sleep in their cars by the odor when they walk by. A little dignity is in order but then again we actually saw grown men climbing into dumpsters looking for treasures to sell so obviously self esteem means very little to some. Wayne

"Good weather" is the operative phrase. The first thing I pack every year for Hershey is a rainsuit. For the Op, keep in mind that almost everybody is done vending by Friday afternoon, but the judged cars are on Saturday. I have walked of of Hershey quickly in one long day but if you really want to look around you will need a coupe of days,
