16 inch rims on my 28

I am thnking strongly about putting 16 inch rims on my 28 I would suppose this has been beaten to death somwhere else on here but I search and couldnt find what I needed. Can anyone tell me what size back tire I will need to match up with what I have now in the 21 so I dont lose to much mph...Thanks in advance for your answers

Not sure what size tire your 21 is but if you go 650 x 16 the tire height is 29 inches. 16 inch wheel and 13 inches tire. If you go 750 x 16 that equals 16 inch wheel and 15 inches tire for 31 inch tire height.

Looking at my Coker catalog, they list Firestone 440/450 X21 at 30.79 inch diameter, 700 X 16 has a listed diameter of 30.39 , 7.50 X 16 is listed at 31 inches diameter . Its your choice .

Ford kept the rolling diameter of its wheels the same for passenger cars throughout the 1930s and 1940s.

In the math that follows, the first number is the tire's sidewall height so it is doubled.

The math for a 1935 6.50x16 wheel is
(6.50x2)+16=29 inches.

For a 1933-'34 5.50x17 wheel, the rolling diameter is
(5.50x2)+17=28 inches

For a 1932 5.50x18 wheel, the rolling diameter is
(5.50x2)+18=29 inches.

For a 1930 -'31 4.75x19 wheel, the rolling diameter is
(4.75x2)+19=28.5 inches.

For a 1928-'29 4.50x21 wheel, the theoretical rolling diameter is
(4.50x2)+21=30 inches.

The actual rolling diameter will differ a bit because it depends on the tire pressure and the load acting on the wheel.
