Starter Switch Questions
So I am restoring two starter switches and have a few questions. I have a new old stock switch and I was looking at the hardware on the battery stud. It has a "special" internal lock washer that nobody seems to sell (I don't think). Take a look at these pictures. Under it there is a special nut too. Nobody seems to sell that either. is this original or did somebody replace this with funky hardware? My final question is if the switch was painted black, the threaded rod that has the starter rod thread into was also painted black because it was already mounted right?

Re: Starter Switch Questions
I always thought they were cad plated. Someone with the judging standards will be able to say for sure.

Re: Starter Switch Questions
Probably aftermarket, not Ford, there were many companies making parts, some made different than original

Re: Starter Switch Questions
According to the JS, they were either black or cad.

Re: Starter Switch Questions
It still has the original Ford Tag with part number "A-11450."

Re: Starter Switch Questions
It does look like it has never been used. There is no play in the plunger and no pitting on the contact strip.

Re: Starter Switch Questions
Later ford solenoids used those "speed nuts" to hold the studs in place. My thought was that it would hold the stud in place, but not need a wider nut and longer stud.
They can be unscrewed if you start them with pliers. Probably an aftermarket version. |
