Default 1933 Dipstick Difference

I recently purchased a spare '33 dipstick. It looks identical to my original dipstick in shape and overall length (16 9/16" long), When I tried to insert it into the pan it wouldn't fit. I measured it carefully to find that it is about 1/16" of an inch thicker and the flat section of the stick that goes into the pan is about 1/4" difference. Were there different dipsticks for '33?

I've seeen different markings on them but all fit . Also seen some that were spot welded at the bottom overlap . Again they fit . This type of dipstick was widely used at that time so I would guess you have a dipstick for something else that happens to be the right length . I bought an NOS one a while back and it was not for a 33 ford . Swap meet purchase so I still have it . . Pretty much a $50 bill down the smelly pipe .

The original '33 dipstick had a half-round cross section. Judging from your description, it sounds like you bought a '35 + dipstick, which had a wider, flat cross section.

I used to know a guy who fabricated some '32 ones; he told me the material was called "cotter stock", material for a pretty big cotter pin. I neglected to ask him where such stuff could be purchased or how he even discovered it...

I have a couple complete spare engines in storage - a '35 & 36. I checked out & compared their dipsticks to this one. It doesn't even come close. This '33 stick most likely is a repro from cotter stock like Bruce said.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
