Hi Scott,
I just purchased these same tires for my sport coupe. I was pleasantly surprised. They look nice and seem nice quality. For a driver, I am very pleased.

Scott I'll give em the gold star! I bought a set for the 28 coupe and have been real happy. They wear well and also perform in the rain and snow. You won't be disappointed.

I'm very pleased with Universal tires I have on 2 cars. They wear well and the tread design is pleasing to the eye.

I had some dry rotted, dingy white wall garfield tires and just sprang for some diamond tread blackwall goodyears. They are spendy but they are made in the good ol U.S. of A and sure do look purdy! I havn't gotten my car road worthy quite yet so I can't attest to the wear but I'd still recommend them. Authentic, and US made. YMMV.

I have the 21" Universals on the rear of my Fordor. Seem like good tires so far...1 year old about 3500 miles. They look "right" too. Got them from Cokers, had a local tire shop order them for me. Cost about $118 mounted, balanced each.

KEEP THE OLD TUBES!!!!

I changed out 25 yr old tires with new and thought as you did get new tubes. They are junk. I have had to beg club members for old tubes because the new ones split or leak air from porus sections of the tube.

If the old ones work keep them.

Okay guys you've convinced me, I'm heading to Hershey PA today and am stopping at Universal to grab 5 tires. I'll probably buy new tubes but check the condition of the old ones when I take them off. Thanks again, everyone on here is very helpful, nice to be a part of this community!

I agree most new tubes are junk. There is one kind that is not. Tubes for radial tires are thick rubber , well made, and work fine in bias model A tires.Bert's sells these tubes.I had these in a set of Goodyear 19" tires and never had a problem.

Steve, from what I have been reading on the problems with "new" tubes I would say ---be sure to put OLD tubes in them, you don't need the trouble of new tubes

Scott,
I do service and restoration work for the guys around St. Louis /souther Illinois. I think the Garfield tires are awefull. They steer hard, and have a flat tread design to them..which is why they probably steer hard. I prefer the Firestone tires... as they seem to handle the best, wear well with proper inflation/use, and look correct, black or whitewall. The goodyears are good as well It really doesn't pay to buy a set of inferior lesser or old used tires, or even if they are new and sitting around 15 years. In my opinion, if you want the car to drive it's best, put a decent set of tires on it like the firestone or goodyears and be done with it. Spending less for a lesser tire is directly proportional to it's handling and performance. Just know that all of these tires don't give as many miles as your modern. I think coker will tell you 8-12K is all you can expect from them. Proper inflation and alignment are obviously key as well.
If you really want a great performing tire and money's no object I hear the new blackwall radials are great. Ask Jonathon Klinger ( 365daysofA).
Good luck,

Larry S

Okay, I was in and out of Universal Tire in about 15 minutes..5 new tires, 5 new tubes, 5 new rimstrips, out the door for $630.40. I'll keep everyone posted after I get home and get them mounted and balanced....Thanks for all the input!

Yikes! They must put some crazy precious metal in them or something... Gold or something pricy in the goodyears I just bought, and these are made of unobtainium! ouch! I guess if you drive it a lot and get 2-3x the milage it makes sense but geez! They're tires!
