Default 1954 Quarter Window Motor

I’m looking for a quarter window motor to get the brush holder out of to repair my RH quarter window motor. (Doesn’t necessarily need to work because I’m looking for part to repair my motor) See attached pictures:

Rope,

Glad I was able to help. These brush holders are unique to 6 volt Redmond motors, used for the rear quarter power windows, in 52'-54' Mercury,Fords and Lincoln. (4th picture, is an original motor with the original brushes and holders). With age (70 + years) they have become brittle and break. Unfortunately there are no suppliers for parts for Redmond motors since they went out of business back in the 70's. The front power window motors are still Redmond motors but the brush holders are different, as are the heater blower motors and the power top motors.

I looked into having them reproduced with a 3D printer, bit the cost to have them scanned and reproduced is around $150.

I did find a temporary solution to the problem. As it turns out Studebaker used Redmond motors for their power window wipers. The brush holders are the same design but the brushes are smaller an will not take the brushes used for Mercury,Ford and Lincoln. My Son-in-law is currently in the process of scanning and completing the CAD design, to then reproduce them on a 3 D printer. (prototype picture attached. Still needs pocket for brush)

For those of you that might need the brushes and holders right now, you can contact Studebaker International Inc. I am attaching the pictures of the catalog with the part number and contact information. (7th picture - motor with Studebaker brushes installed)

Ok, so I still have AOL, and I save them up in the tool bar until I am done with them. Then I can move them over to my favorites, where they stay forever.

The CAD design is close, just getting a few final ((as Tom Hanks said it in
(You've Got Mail) 'tweaks')). Then he will print off the first prototype.

These same brush holders were used in the Redmond motors ,that were used for factory power seats in my 53' Merc. Same for Ford and Lincoln. After Redmond went out of business, the car companies started using American Bosh motors for the same applications.

Difference between Studebaker and original holders (original has a slightly larger opening for the brush) and brush in holder.

Two Redmond motors use the same brushes and holders:

Redmond # E-150 - Power 2 way seat (3rd picture)

Redmond # E-153 - Rear quarter power windows. Both are 6 volt motors (5th picture)

American Bosh motors in used after Redmond motors, for power seats (4th picture)

Did you find the motors. If not, the car is a CONV, correct?

54VICTORIA,

Good to hear, thanks for the feed back. Sometimes, when I do something and it works, I wonder if it is just me, or can it be duplicated by someone else.

I have Chevy valves in my flat head and Studebaker brush holders in my window and seat motors.

Glad it worked for you.

Thank you Roy,

I wrote him. He already quoted shipping, just need to know if surface is trackable otherwise I should take the more expensive express...

And I hope he is an honest man as I already sent some bucks to a scammer.

Roberto,

He has been a member since: Join Date: 05-08-2010 (2 months longer than I have)

When I bought vent window frames, from a person in Canada, he provided me a fully tractable number for the ground shipment, so that should not be an issue for you. Since he takes PayPal, there will be a level of security for both you and the seller.

By way of an update on the 3 D printing of the motor brush holders. My Son-in-law has made good progress. He printed out a few sets and I put them in a motor with the original brushes (the original brushes are larger than the ones that come with the Studebaker kits). The motor performed perfectly. He is continuing the process, now working with a different material in the printing process.

The brush holders are a bit larger (but still fit perfectly in the the motor, within the ample space of the motor housing) providing additional strength and longevity.

The three pictures attached reflect the original configuration of the original brushes and holders. The second is with one of the original brushes and holder along with one of the 3 D printed holders. The third picture is with the new 3 D printed holders and the original brushes. This way if your brush holders break, you simply swap out the holder, since the brushes will outlive all of us, due to the minimal use during the life of motor in the car. And there is no need to solder in new brushes, as with the Studebaker kits.

Remember these are the motors for the power windows and power seats. They may also fit other Redmond motors too.

I will be sure to do that. Glad to see the Studebaker ones worked for you, in the interim.
