Default Front License Plate Clamps

Hey Guys, This may seem silly, but I can`t quite figure how the front license plate clamps hold the plate. I do know that its obvious that the clamps surround the light bar but not so with holding the plate. Any close up pictures would help. Thanks a bunch.

Richard, Ron's drawing gives a fairly accurate portrayal but if you notice at the bottom it indicates from 6/29 thru the end. Prior to that time, the clips had a little rib detail, and on those (up to May of '29) the clips were installed with the bolts under the headlight bar. Kinda confusing however it has been said it allowed the headlight bar to be hidden behind the license plate this allowing for better air flow through the radiator. Seems plausible however it also may be an old 'wive's "tail"!

Here's the license clips for my 1928. As odd as it seems, the license plate winds up moving ahead after a drive, rather than the wind pushing it back.

Dog here, 3 possible answers:
1-Fan's on BACKURDS.
2-Trick fan belt.
3-GOOD brakes. or
4-Bill's GHOST AIN'T REALLY DEAD!! Buster.T.

On a 31 is there a trick to holding it in position? Every time I park I have to pull the license plate forward into position! So what the old time fix for this? Bi can't be the only one.

Since the 31 is mounted above the bar, it should be even less prone to move from the wind. Outside of having tight clamps, I don't know what to tell you.

Ron C has it right, according to the Judging Standards, at least after June 1929.

How about a thin (real thin) rawhide or rubber strip?

I put a wrap of friction tape around the bar and clamped to that. Now duct (duck) tape is the seventh wonder of the world but I do love old fashion friction tape.
