Car always getting power
After installing a new starter I realized that my car is ALWAYS getting power. I am able to start the car with the key still in my pocket. I guess my '31 is equipped with a special "keyless go" option. Can someone please explain if this is normal or am i missing something?

Re: Car always getting power
How do you shut it off? If you have a pop out type ignition, you can remove the key once it is on and have to push the switch in to cut the car off.

Re: Car always getting power
The coil and horn have power all the time and the switches for those 2 items supplies the grounds.
The headlights, taillight, and starter are supplied power by the switches. |

Somthing is broken and you will burn out the coil if its not fixed. What type of Ign switch do you have?

The car will crank but not start. I just thought I would have battery issues if the starter is always getting power.

turning the key on completes the ignition circuit for spark Last edited by Mitch//pa; 05-07-2013 at 06:08 PM. |

Re: Car always getting power
sapple89,
The starter does not always have power. The starter has power only when the starter switch is closed. I think that you meant to say that you can always turn on the starter without turning the ignition switch. Marc |
