Electrical help needed
Installed new NuRex ignition switch and cable, as well as a new distributor with modern points and condenser. With the distributor out of the car, I get juice to the points. As soon as I put the distributor in the car, no juice to the points or bottom plate. I'm at a loss, nothing else was changed in the electrical system. Thoughts?

Re: Electrical help needed
I don't mean to be nasty but take a careful look at the directions that came with the parts. I had a similar problem and I am not good with electrical stuff. I found out that I had not followed the directions carefully.

Re: Electrical help needed
Did you screw the cable end tightly into the distributer? If you did it pushes the contact against the housing, dead short.holding it in your hand it isn't grounding, but once on the engine it is grounded again. It only has to be screwed in enough to contact the tab.You might thing it will be too loose, but it won't back out.

Re: Electrical help needed
The only time the points would be hot is when the switch is on and the points are open
and then only the movable arm would be hot. The distributor supplies the ground side of the coil. Bob |

Re: Electrical help needed
I think Bob might be closer on this. With the distrubuter in the engine, key on,use the point of the test light to open the points.See if it lights up when you open them. Also, are you using the standard lower plate with a wire?Or, the wireless lower plate with a brass contact ring and hanging contact ear.
