Default New wires for 41' 6 volt

I'm going to be replacing the wires under the hood and dash and I'm a rookie with 6 volt. I have a new battery. In the future I'll most likely get a harness. I've read and been told that I need to use a heavier gauge wire. Is this diagram correct for a reference for proper wire size? Would it hurt to go bigger or does it matter? Any help is appreciated.

Heavier gauge wire never hurts anything. Sometimes harder to work with, but often worth it. Soldered ends are also always better than crimped, especially on those wires that carry heavy current loads or are exposed to weather.

My Two cents.

If you purchase a repro wiring harness from a reputable supplier, then the correct sized wire is used. You would not have to go to a larger sized wire.

Wire gauge for 6-volt is about two full gauge numbers larger that gauges more appropriate to 12-volt. 16-gauge is common for 6-volt single wire low load conductor wire. 12-volt systems use 18-gauge for the average conductor wire.

6-volt systems use 16 and 10 gauge a lot and some 14. The larger gauge is for buss wiring load needs like generator to voltage regulator and such on later model cars up through 1955.
