How big is the truck? Radial tires are an improvement in my opinion. I have them on my Fordor, and love them!

After you drive it you will be amazed how nice it rides and steers, compared to the old bias ply tires. Rich

What size 16" radials would you have to get that would have the same height (~30") as the original 19" tires? (mine is a 31)

Does he say why you should not use the radials?

If you do use radials you need to buy 5 of them, one for the spare.

If your running original wheels it may be hard to find 18" radials that would fit properly. If your running 16" wheels it would be no problem at all.

I drove a stock 32 B pickup with 550/R18 Excelsior radials. It drove so nice I offered to buy the truck.
