Re: explosion whistle
Good luck. I looked for the adapter for well over a year or so and ended up buying one that had been converted from a model T some forty odd years ago, but it only lasted me less then a year and had a blow out where it was brazed. I finally got the correct one from my fathers estate.....
Basically all the normal suppliers were sold out of the Model A version but everyone had Model T ones.

Try Bert's Model "A" parts in Colorado.

Re: explosion whistle
Thanks guys
None of the suppliers have them now. Why, for the fun of it. Had one on our 1913 roadster, girls love em! |

Re: explosion whistle
The ones shown by post #4 give a "chirp-chirp-chirp" sound when you pull the cord to activate it. I've seen the really cool ones that have multiple pipes, like a steam calliope that are connected into the exhaust pipe and sound really neat when going off, like an old steam engine whistle. Once in a blue moon you'll see one on Flea-bay, but pricey.

Re: explosion whistle
This is a parts counter exhaust whistle demonstrator from way back in the day we used at Sacramento Vintage. Sounded like a train whistle.
The image in the pump shows an explosion whistle not the exhaust whistle. Made by Lucas Automotive (Stan Lucas). Made them in brass and aluminum along with the cast exhaust manifold adaptor. (Installed between the manifold and exhaust pipe). Pull cable was mounted in the car somewhere.... |

Re: explosion whistle
Use with care. If this one mimics the whistle used on Trains most states have in the Traffic Code a violation for having a "Device which causes alarm to other persons." The intent of the law is to prevent kids from installing them then parking near RR Crossings, and sounding the whistle when cars cross the tracks.
Used in the correct manner there's no problem. Otherwise, the price of buying one multiples rapidly. |

Re: explosion whistle
Years ago I had an explosion whistle on my 29 pickup. It was loud and can scare people but does get their attention. I had the exhaust whistle on my Model T and that was more fun. It did sound like a train, especially if modulated like the engineers did on steam trains. It was really fun in the tunnels on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It does not sound like a modern Diesel locomotive horn.
Another fun addition is a Bermuda bell. This is a foot operated bell that bolts to the floor boards. It does a ding dong sound. I had one on an old Mercedes.

Re: explosion whistle
Been on the look out for the Bermuda bell but so far no real luck. I do know where there is one but it's still attached to the car that hasn't ran in probably 20 years...., maybe some day.

Re: explosion whistle
I have a bermuda bell on my A pickup.I got it for $5.at a swap meet years ago because it only has a ding,no dong.I wouldn't worry too much about being bothered by using that train horn, there are probably not too many people alive who ever heard that sound in a real life situation.I believe it's been about 80 years since they were used.Would have been a different story back in the A days. They're not all that loud,if you are next to an A in a modern car you probably won't even hear it.
