Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?
Group,
The GAV brass holder leaks where it screws into the Zenith carb. This is the part that the GAV needle valve screws into. Can I use Teflon tape on the threads to stop the gas leak ? Its a very small leak. Marc |

Re: Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?
I think the answer to that is no.
I believe that gasoline will deteriorate white teflon tape. Some use the yellow teflon tape. Fixing what is causing the leak is probably best. I have also heard that there is a teflon paste, but if the tape deteriorates, why wouldn't the tape? |

Re: Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?
I have been using a product called Gasoila E-Seal on the GAV threads. I believe someone on this forum recommended it. It seems to work. You will have to look it up on line. It leaves a green deposit on the threads.
I had been using the white Teflon tape on the GAV threads for years with good results until one day a small piece of the tape broke off and ended up at the tip of the cap jet. Tom Endy |

I also use Gasoila E-Seal. Works good for sealing threads that see the E-10 we have in California.

Re: Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?
I use white Teflon tape on my Model T spark plugs all the time! Permatex make a thread sealer, come in a small white tube, no issues with it and gas or oil that I have seen.
There is noting wrong with using the Teflon tape on pipes or fitting related to the cooling system.

Re: Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?
I have used teflon tape (PTFE tape over here) for many years on GAV threads, It has always sealed successfully and I have never had problems.

Wow, it's nice to see a direct answer without any B.S.

Re: Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?
Never use teflon tape on A carbs. Little pieces will work there way to the bowl and clog up the jets and everything between. Replace the GAV if worn. Last resort would be Permatex if case is issue.
