Pickup Truck Tool Box
I installed a tool box in my pickup this week. It's actually a small trailer tongue box that fits perfectly and holds all my emergency supplies including the jack, fire extinguisher, fan belt, oil, fix-a-flat, tire pump, anti-freeze/water, duck tape, coat hangers, and tools. The box is from Harbor Freight ($68) and the Ford decal is a magnet from Hobby Lobby ($3). Did I leave out anything ? I mounted it using the four bed bolts under the box.

Re: Pickup Truck Tool Box
Looks good. What I did for my '29 CC was take a old metal milk can painted it near color of the truck- used some Krylon paint, (dark moss green is truck color) and put it in the center of the front of the bed, tied to the bed rails with manila rope looped through the handles. It holds hyd. jack, wrenches, small air pump etc.. Friend of mine sell the rubber matting on the bed floor, I take it out when going to a show etc except for a small piece the can sits on.
Dtolson, you are right about getting up in the bed, thank goodness for my grandkids that are usually with me, too old also! Last edited by holdover; 04-02-2015 at 09:46 AM. |

Re: Pickup Truck Tool Box
Thanks. I seriously considered the milk can idea but figured I would have to get in the bed to get something out. Too old !!

Looks great.
Side note: Do you really want your fire extinguisher locked away if you ever need it? I installed a couple of magnets on my extinguisher bracket and attach it to the seat riser. Very easy to get to and out of the way. |

Re: Pickup Truck Tool Box
Hi Gents
I agree, these tool boxes and milk can looks great BUT isn't there enough space under the seat for the tools? There is even space behind the seat backrest. I also have the fire ex and cup holders attached to the front of seat riser. Happy Easter Chris Cape Town |

Re: Pickup Truck Tool Box
True there is space under the seat, but when I put my battery disconnect on the seat riser I decided to get every thing out of there, so nothing would interfer with the wires even thought they are insulated. also eliminated the occasional rattle. There really is a lot of storage space in the milk can.. and it acts as a period prop that many people comment on.

Re: Pickup Truck Tool Box
My seat is a pain to get in and out. Also have disconnect but lucky it is a 12V conversion and I kill the NEG. ground cable so no hot terminals.
My box is full... amazing how much stuff I think is important.. LOL It also provides locked storage when on tours. I keep Fire Ext. in it but never roll with the box locked. |
