I have that exact hitch but never ever thought it was original. I am curious why you think it is original ?

Re: did the Model A come with a trailer hitch?
Ford made Assessories for Model As for the dealers to make money. Consequently it would have been an advertised Assessory. If it was advertised by Ford I would think it would be in the judging standards which it is not. My guess is its aftermarket

I don't have the book of non authorized ford accessories handy to see it there is such a thing in the book as a period accessory or a latter Western Auto/Sears kind of thing.

Re: did the Model A come with a trailer hitch?
Because places like Western Tire or J.C. Whitney sold ones that look like this. That to me seems more obvious than Ford. I have seen Many threads about accesories and the hitch was never mentioned, I still think it is an aftermarket produced to meet a need. I bought it at Hershey from a vendor that said it fit many antique cars and I am sure it does. I used it to tow a Coca Cola trailer but do not use it now. Wayne

When I purchased my Model A Deluxe Town Sedan (155-D) it was equipped
with the same application. That was 1959 and it was an original car. |

Re: did the Model A come with a trailer hitch?
So who has towed with this hitch? How does it perform? Like Bruskie, I reckon it lacks strength and would stretch pretty easily??
Not sure how heavy a Coca Cola trailer is, or even what that is?? |

Looks like something any farmer with a torch and a drill could have made in the 30's.
They were pretty resourceful guys, ya' know. |

Re: did the Model A come with a trailer hitch?
They refurbished and made old coca cola chest coolers to look like new and then they mounted them on a small four foot platform with an axle and wheels. They were towed by older cars and motorcycles. Surprised you never ever saw one.Wayne

Re: did the Model A come with a trailer hitch?
I have one like that on my 28 pickup except it has a second bar below and extra holes to put a pin through next to the ball. It's mounted on 30 brackets & bumpers. Works great, towed a load of iron with it in an A pickup bed trailer.
