Default For those of you who feel like praying, one of our vendors is in trouble!

Many of y'all know Jim Adams (Fordbarn member modela-carb ) and possibly have a carburetor he has rebuilt on your Model-A. I have some sad news to share.

Jim stopped by my shop two weeks ago and was joking about him getting old and now he has started to forget stuff at times and he had spoken with his Dr. because he was worried about getting Dementia. Later that day he received a phone call that no one ever wants to receive saying he needs to have additional tests done immediately as they have found what appears to be a brain tumor. Last week Jim and his wife Rose met with a surgeon and a biopsy was taken. The news from this was not good. Jim came by my shop again this past Thursday and we discussed "life", and his options. Jim is an ex-Marine and a strong physical man, ...but this one is tryin' to kick his tail with the time period of his life expectancy being measured now in months!

If you know Jim, I am sure he would like to hear from you with words of encouragement. If you don't happen to know Jim personally, I feel sure he would covet any prayer or encouraging thoughts you care to offer him.

Thanks everyone.

Will be praying for him for sure. Surviving cancer is possible. Finding out you have cancer is life changing and it will test you to the core in ways you have never thought possible. Rod

After 9 months of cancer treatments my daughter is in remission. Cancer is a brutal disease. We have survived this for now and it is our most sincere wish that Jim beats this.

I know this to be true. I do not know Jim Adams, but if I were speaking with him I would encourage him to focus on doing whatever can be done to get that tumor out and to live life to the fullest each and every minute. He and his wife will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Just as there have been many advances in the automotive industry, medicine has been improving also. During a yearly exam and a diligent doctor, I received the bad news of a brain tumor (acustic neuroma) in 1998. My wife did quite a bit of research and found a new procedure (at that time - now fairly common) that would possibly save my life and reduce the possibility of facial paralysis, and other bad things. We found a surgeon in Pittsburgh that was trained in the new procedure and after an 8 1/2 hr surgury and many wonderful doctors and nurses, I am alive and kicking today. I credit many prayers from prayer chains from various denominations (denominational walls wonderfully break down when the need is great). A great personal attitude is also important and having friends there to assist in daily needs makes recovery much easier. Our prayers are extended to Jim and family and the physicians who will be there for the procedures necessary.

This is not as simple as an oil change - it is a complicated situation, but there is hope for recovery and meaningful life after. I can tell you that you will hug your children and grandchildren a little tighter after going through something like this. You are more consious of making each day count for something. I'm very greatful that FordBarn is more than nuts and bolts - its about the fellowship of people of similar interests.

A friend was diagnosed with stage 4 a few years ago and given months to live. She is now in remission and dating again. It was a very hard road, but she did it. Hearing he is an Marine makes me believe he will fight this hard.

Good luck!

Brent,
I spoke to Jim just last week about the orifice size on the jets. I ended up getting a set of "corrected" jets from him and they arrived this past Thursday. He was a joy to talk to and he answered all of my questions. He will most certainly be in my prayers.

Jim, Stay strong and fight hard, my friend!!!

With 'weeping eyes' it truly saddens me to bring this thread up again but I have been asked to give an update on Jim. This is an excerpt of an email that came from his wife a few days ago;

Dear Brent

I think it is time I let u know about Jim's condition and possibilities. He is in a very rapid decline. He can no longer speak fluently, read or write. He and his Dr. decided that it was time for hospice and withdrawl of meds, all of which has been done. He no longer gets up and has now been a week without food, only water. He recognizes people and tries to talk but makes no sense when he does. I mostly ask yes/no ? so he can nod or respond with one word. He has no pain. I don't know how long this will last but I suspect not mor than another few weeks, maybe even days. Funeral arrangements are in place. I am so thankful we have had this time of pure joy. He is truly the love of my life and I am so sad, and yet so grateful that he is in no pain or suffering. It is pretty amazing that he drove here on April 2 and now cannot even sit on the edge of the bed. His memories are fading rapidly. I am not sure about customers that had been writing to jim but obviously he is done doing carb work. please pay for continued mercy for Jim.

I just received another e-mail from her requesting that I put a notice on here suggesting I tell everyone that he cannot accept any more work or answer carb questions. If you don't mind, please lift Jim, his wife, their daughters & family up in prayer during this emotional time. Thank you.

Thank you.

.
Brent, please keep me updated as you find out anything. You know Jim and I got to be great friends when we worked at your shop and I think a lot of him. We didn't have the best start but after getting to know him closely, I found him to be one of the best people I could have become friends with. Prayers.

Always praying for a Marine brother. Thanks Brent, as a side note, we are former Marines, and never ex. Tell him Semper Fi for me.

I'm praying for both Jim and his family. May The Lord grant them the strength to see this battle through, and the understanding that while we don't know His plan, we do know that He has one.

Again, I just wanted to thank each of y'all for the kind thoughts and prayers for Jim, ...and with a heavy heart let you know that Jim passed away peacefully last night at 10:44PM. Many of us have lost a great friend in Jim. Please remember his wife and his family in the coming days.

(Below is a picture of Jim the day he picked up a car which we helped him refurbish back in 2005. It was a 'recreation' of his high school dream car. Jim was originally from Illinois but as they would visit us working on his car they began to like this area, and so after he retired he & his wife moved here. Jim's wife later came to work here in the office, and Jim worked around the shop. Up until just recently he generally could be found a day or so a week here working on carburetors and helping out. We will miss him for sure.)

So sad. I only got to know Jim right at the end of his life but he immediately came across as a genuine great guy. If someone is in touch with the family please extend my deepest sympathy to them. John Buckley

Prayers for Mr. Adams. Do not know him, but know what he is going through as found I had liver cancer which was removed Dec. 10th last year. Have gone through chemo and radiation and waiting for CT scan to see if any left. Changes your perspective on Life. But lots of prayers work miracles.
