Question Rear Main Seal

1930 Model A. I've got some serious oil leaking from the front and rear of the motor at the pan. I am going to replace the 4 gaskets dealing with the pan. If it works I will be 1 happy camper. If it doesn't....can I replace the rear main seal with the motor in the car or should I pull it out?

There is no actual rear main seal, just a "slinger". You may want to check the main bearing clearances and remove shims if necessary. Too much clearance or bad babbitt are often the cause of leaks.

Thanks Jim. I've got a lot to learn about these little 4-bangers. I'm thinking of those old ford V-8 flatheads I think. I just ordered a nice manual to help.
