Water Pump Identification
As you can see from the picture I broke one of my water pumps today. I cannot find another pump like this one from normal suppliers. Can someone ID the year and vehicle I need to be searching for. The pumps came off of 8BA engine fitted into 39 Ford Pickup.

Re: Water Pump Identification
It isn't just a regular 8BA truck pump?

Re: Water Pump Identification
Might also be a '49-'51 Mercury pump. Hard to tell from the picture, but they mount a bit lower than the Ford truck pumps and require the spacer.

Re: Water Pump Identification
If it had a wide belt pulley it came from a 1949 Mercury. The 49-51 Mercury pumps have not been reproduced. If you want another one like it, you’ll have to get a good core and have it rebuilt. We’ve still got cores left if you want to go that route. You could also use the 8RT truck pumps instead.

Re: Water Pump Identification
It had the narrow pulleys for 3/8 belt.
Would using the 8rt truck pump have the engine sit in the same place height wise since I have already measured and fabricated my transmission mount for AOD. |

https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...ustion.473942/ and http://shoebox-central.com/1950-1951...mp-narrow-belt Perhaps someone changed the pulleys to narrow belt. Be sure to look at this: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9326 What are the part number markings on each pump you have? Last edited by 19Fordy; 05-11-2019 at 07:16 AM. |

Re: Water Pump Identification
Been down that road before with the 8ba in my '39 p/u with narrow belt Merc pumps. Looks like you're using the u shaped Merc spacer which makes up for the different mounting height of the Merc pump as compared to an 8rt truck pump. So you could change over to truck pumps BUT they are wide belts so you'll have to change the crank and generator pulleys as well. My opinion is to find a core and send it to Skip and have it rebuilt. He did the ones on my 8ba and no issues. Also had him do a spare set when I rebuilt the engine just in case but with his pumps that really isn't necessary. JMO.

Re: Water Pump Identification
I want to go back with the style pumps I have the engine was already set up with fan to work. If you see by the picture of the spacer the small hole on bottom fits the motor mounts. The water pump without the spacer would not fit.
The RH pump had 462/ 466-RH while the other pump has 466/467-LH on the front. |

Re: Water Pump Identification
I found a couple in my spares, but of course the one with 3/8” pulley was the left side.
But I’ve got these two. Only one picture came out, but Your welcome to it, I can ship it flat rate for about $15 |
