As used in 28-29 AA trucks, in 1930 they went to the heavy duty 4-speed trans.

Re: Is this an under drive or something else?
AR is a hobby term that relates to 1928 Model A vehicles that have the single brake system or early 1928 vehicles. When the early parts were discontinued, Ford put AR after their part number.
My observations from the picture: Left hand brake lever - no separate emergency brake system – Beginning of Production (BOP) to 12/1928 Rear engine mounts 12/27 to 2/1930 Throttle linkage -June 1928 to Sept 1928 Single disc clutch -10/1928 on Clutch access cover – 10/28 to 2/1929 Interesting clutch pedal to release arm rod 1929 hubcap on Rt. Front brake drum On AA trucks changes could take place up to 6 months after the introduction of a part. Anyone have any other observations?

Re: Is this an under drive or something else?
Some have put them in a Model A backwards to make an overdrive.

As a (re)new(ed) novice to the hobby, might I suggest you NOT use the term 'AR' when describing a Model-A as the term is usually used incorrectly for what it applying to. Ford never used the term AR to describe a vehicle, ...and the ONLY time it was used was when a production assembly part (-not a component but an assembled part) was superseded by a revised part. For example an A-12345-A component might be revised by engineers and the identifying part number replaced by A-12345-AR followed by A-12345-B. While the 'AR' designations were for earlier production vehicles, only on rare circumstances did an A-*****-AR part ever get used on the assembly line. Therefore, the proper hobbists' terms are Early-28, Mid-28, Late-28, and Very Early-28. The VE-28 generally refers to A vehicles built in 1927, and the others are broken into monthly trimesters. If your chassis has wire wheel hub caps, I would be interested in those. |
