Exhaust Bracket
I am installing the exhaust on my 39 Pickup and am at the rear outlet of the muffler. It appears that bracket 91A 5274 is nothing more than a piece of bar stock cut to length and bolted to the outer frame and X member frame. The Green Bible doesn't show any drawings nor does the 38, 39 Authenticity manual show pictures. I have a photo that I took from the Barn that some one had submitted and it shows this bar but not a good angle. On the frame are two holes on either side of the outer rail and X frame. Does the bar need 4 bolts to hold in place or just two? What is the thickness of the bar and what are the length and width? Is the hole for the exhaust bracket in the center of the bar or offset in or out? Sorry to get so wordy, as it is only a piece of bar stock. Would appreciate any response.

Re: Exhaust Bracket
It is held on with a bolt on each end. The hole in the middle is square. It also is not flat,it has a bend in it to elevate it to compensate for the thickness of the frame. It is about 1 1/2" wide by 1/8" thick. You should be able to make one.

Re: Exhaust Bracket
I have a NOS one if you need measurements. I bought it but never used it. The one I made was of better quality. LOL

Re: Exhaust Bracket
Bill is this what your looking for? I made lots of these for both sides when I install duals. This is on a 34 P/U. I have the same ones on my 39 P.U. G.M.

Re: Exhaust Bracket
HI GM, could you post more pictures of your dual exhaust on the 34 pickup?
I may be putting duals on mine and the picture sure looked like a sanitary install. Thank you Gary. |

Re: Exhaust Bracket
Gary here's a few shots of the duals on the 34 P/U. I don't like the left side looping down under the frame. I used a hole saw and extended the round hole on the passenger side into an elongated hole like the hole in the frame on the passenger side. I have an exhaust pipe bemding machine and made a 2 piece header pipe that curves around the steering column. Also made a battery box and mounted the Optima battery long ways so there is plenty of clearance between the battery and exhaust pipe so no heat is near the battery. The solenoid laying on top of the frame is just there to start the engine temperarly. The frame bracket behind the L/S muffler is on both sides. G.M.

Re: Exhaust Bracket
Gary after looking at the pictures it looks like I bent the left header pipe out of one piece. I may have been thinking of one of my 39's where the head pipe is a little trickier getting around the steering and made it in 2 pieces. G.M.
