Default Vacuum from the carb to the distributor

I do not think my vacuum advance is advancing my timing at a higher throttle.
I remove my steel line today to see if the problem was the line, distributor vacuum advance or the draw from the carb. At idle I tried putting a vacuum on a new rubber line with no change at idle. I then put my finger on the inlet at the carb and did not feel any suction. Should I feel a draw from the carb at idle?
All comments are greatly appreciated.d

good advice and a very straight answer, flatjack9. if you are running the original carb on the F1 then the advance vacuum comes from above the throttle plates high on the rear of the carb, no way to have vacuum with the throttle closed

Have you tried sucking on the vacuum line with it still connected to the distributor? This will tell you if it's ignitions vacuum can or a sticky points plate that's playing up.
With a suck on the pipe with the distributor cap off, you should see the points plate advance, if you hold your toung on the pipe to seal it the points plate should stay in its advance position, when you release your toung, the points plate should smartly spring back to its idle/non advanced state. These will tell you if the vacuum diaphragm is ok or not, and if the points plate is sticking. I have see the vacuum can pipe port blocked, cleaned it out and fixed.
Martin.
