1936 Ford Clutch Replacement Procedure?

Do you have to pull the engine to replace the clutch on a 1936 Ford or can you pull the rear end instead? Which is easier?

If you plan on removing the flywheel it’s probably easier to remove the engine

I’ve done it both ways. Pulling the engine and pulling the rear end. I personally find it a little easier to pull the rear end. However if you pull the engine you can also pull it with the transmission attached.

I think it is near impossible to pull the engine with the trans attached on an Early V8 Ford. ie; pre-40. At the very least the hood, grille and splash pans would have to be removed.
The rear end can be loosened up and slid back about four inches in less than a half hour. Of course the floor board/trans cover has to be removed.
As I recall, the flywheel will come off of the engine without removing the pan..
On modern vehicles, '50 and later it is easier to pull the engine to do clutch work because the vehicle does not have to be elevated.
