Default Matching numbers for my 1950 F1

If someone could advise me, I would like to know if I have a matching numbers truck. Please provide me your thoughts.
Thank you

On the older Fords pre-1949 the transmission had the numbers stamped in the top of the bell housing as a motor drive assembly. They would stamp this number on the frame while mating them up on the assembly line. When the 8BA came out in 1948, it was first used in the 1948 Ford F series pickups & trucks. In that time frame they stopped using the engine number and just stamped a VIN code number into the frame. There are no numbers to mach unless the cab fire wall has matching stampings to the frame. If it is a V8 the VIN will begin 9RC. If it is a H type 6-cylinder the VIN will begin with 9HC.

FoMoCo rarely put numbers on the engine unless it required by the state or country it was being shipped to. There are engine characteristics that a person can follow to get an approximate time frame of manufacture and many 8BA engines have a date code stamped into the top intake manifold deck on the right rear area mostly. This would be the date of engine manufacture/assembly and not necessarily the date of truck assembly.

On the F-1 the frame number should match the number on the plate that is on the inside of the glove box door.

Close but not quite right. Ford didn't change numbering at the end of '49/beginning of '50, so no one is really sure what exact serial number represents the first '50. All records were lost in the Ford office fire in the late '50's.

88RCxxxxx = '48 239 V8 F-1
87HCxxxxx = '48 226 I6 F-1
98RCxxxxx = '49 or '50 239 V8 F-1
97HCxxxxx = '49 or '50 226 I6 F-1

A 48-51 should have a "patent plate" on the passenger side of the firewall, near the hinge. It will have the serial number. I "think" the glovebox plates were a late 50/51 thing, and in Sept. '51 they dropped the patent plates and used only the glovebox plate.

For a '48-'50, the only way to know the assembly plant is if there are cowl stampings, while on '51-'52 it is part of a revised serial number system.

On my late 50 F1, the serial number is stamped in the frame. It's on the passenger on the topside rail just above the front axle. It should match what's on the cowl and glovebox plates.

And also the serial # doesnt justify if it has a six or V8, but the frame and cab will have serial # for the truck. Can you post the # to disect ? Welcome to the Barn, Lots of F1 guys here Ken

Ross, 48-50 all had "data plates" on the firewall and "rating plates" on the glovebox door.

Also, some 48-50 data plates have a space for "Branch" at the end of the serial number where the assembly plant was stamped.

Ken, see Ross' note about serial number prefixes re: V8 or I6

Ken, it does stink getting old. My truck is waiting for me, but I broke my hip in late Oct, and can't do anything right now. I had plans to get the new gas tank installed and get the truck running again. I was in NH getting 2 antique lawn tractors and fell. Now my plans will be on hold till spring!
