Default Dash Rail Screws

Hello,

I ordered a set of the oval-head screws for the dash rail of my '31 S/W, and I was surprised to see that they did not fit. The screws I got were 1/4-20, and it looks like they actually need to be #12 (they screw into D-nuts in the body cross member beneath the dash rail).

Were the parts I got wrong, or is the S/W body unique in using #12 screws for the dash rail?

Thanks,
Doug

Well, the nuts in the inner rail are definitely original and clean. #12 screws fit smoothly into all of them. (BTW, they are actually caged nuts, not D-nuts.)

Confused,
Doug

Is there any chance you ran a #12-24 tap through those in the past? I've never seen or heard of that before. What about the two "D" nuts in the pillar where the two tabs are fastened?

I stand corrected: I had glued some rubber washers over the holes in the inner rail, and the holes in the washers were a bit small. The #12 screws were actually scewing into the rubber, not the caged nuts. When I removed the rubber washers, 1/4-20 screws fit properly. The holes in the side pillars also take 1/4-20 screws.
