Default 46-48 Ford/ Merc convertible

I have a 1948 mercury convertible and live in Custer SD. I really need to look at and take pictures of the top on a car. My car did not have anything left on it except the side rails. There was no front or rear bow. I am thinking of ordering a new top and trying to install it myself. That is why I need to at least see one. I would travel some if any one has one I could look at and take pictures.

thanks al

I have been involved with the restoration of three vintage automobiles, I consider myself to be pretty handy with body work and mechanical repairs, gave up major mechanical repairs, engine rebuilding, etc many years ago.
There are two things I learned many years ago. Leave upholstery and convertible tops to the professionals. The proper construction/installation of a top on a vintage car is very difficult at it's best.

Words of wisdom. Having had a couple of convertible tops done by professionals, I have learned that if you want a really nice job, give the upholsterer the best framework (bones) that you can. You should not expect the upholsterer to source the rust-free top irons, wood headers and mounting hardware. Not his (or her) job. This will help to give you the final result that you are looking for. Plus, this approach will greatly reduce your cost.
Good luck, you have a great car to work on.

If was mine, I would leave the top frame, in place on the car .and do any repair/maintenance with the frame installed. That frame looks to be in good shape and can, be brought back to shape in place. Just look at how wonderful that left rear window fits up into the top frame. That takes some adjustments and, in this case. those have been done well. Have fun
