Re: strange ford wrench
OK, that looks to be the Model TT [heavy T commercial chassis] spark & head nut wrench but modified. Originally, it may/should have a hex opening centre of the spark plug end which may have been filled in or may have just come like that without it ;rather strange. Believe this was for the rim nuts on the TT. The end of the wrench should have the hex for the head nuts but it looks [ not too clear in pics] to have been lopped off & shaped for some other use. Doing this to old tools was common, but mostly makes them useless for someone else. Looking at the Ford script, this tool may be Canadian made ; scripts varied between manufacturers & eras but it looks the same as many Canadian ones I have from the late T to Model A era. Cheers

Re: strange ford wrench
Perhaps it is unfinished blank, has the wrench opening been machined

Re: strange ford wrench
I have just looked through my Ford tool collection & found this tool [but not quite!]
Mine has the punched hex below the spark plug wrench end & the head nut hex at opposite end. # 17017 is Ford part number for these wrenches from Model A into '30s up to early '40's. Mine is also marked 20E same as yours which gives us another clue. Mine is British [sorry, not Canadian] commercial wrench, & has the Snail Brand logo. It is based on the Model TT wrench but slightly smaller ; the spark plug opening width is 21mm. An American one would be wider. You are in Argentina which during the '30's, was receiving vehicles from Ford Britain, maybe more popular than the US ones. Your one is a variation on the std. #17017 tool & now looks never to have had the centre hex punched & the opposite end is probably correct as well, but I can not tell what the application is because not well pictured. Hope this helps. Cheers -Tom. |
