Oil Pump Gasket

Hey All,

Have the oil pump apart and I have a question. (37 - early 38)

Does the bottom of the pump have a gasket between the pump body and the bottom plate?

Mine did not, but the rebuild kits do as well as a complete engine gasket set and I cant find that gasket by itself. I did notice that it looks very similar to the one I put in my Model A pump 2-years ago.

Is it the same gasket?

For the 37-41 85HP oil pump there is no gasket between the bottom cover for the gears and the pump body. Adding one in this location will decrease oil pressure.

I use a super thin layer of silicone. I have even milled a tiny bit off the pump bodies until I achieve .002-.003 end play in the shaft. I always surface grind or replace the cover with a nos as the gear usually wear into the cover. The tighter these tolerances are the better it will perform.

I wonder why the model A has one as well as the later flatheads, but not the early flatheads. I wonder why?

Yes,,,,,8BA pumps have a gasket .

Gasket or no gasket make no difference as long as you have that .002-.003 clearance
