Question 37 - Early 38 Early Distributor Question

Hey All,

I've torn down the distributor on my newly acquired 37 - early 38 engine and I'm cleaning it up and noticed the #68 part number was crossed off and remarked 11A as shown in the picture.

My question is, was there a part number change with the distributor weights, if so when and why?

I'm asking because my engine is a 37-early 38, an oddball in some respects. I don't think this engine has seen a car or truck because it was the power supply for a generator. I'm not sure if this engine is just a mashup of leftover parts and made into an industrial engine or if some later parts are involved.

I don't need to replace anything other than the Vacuum Brake Plunger, seal, & spring #18-12220 & #18-12205, but I'd like to get as much info as I can before ordering other parts if it comes to that.

Regards
Bill

The 11A (from 1941) pieces replaced the 68 pieces from 1936. The 11A are slightly better bringing in advance slightly sooner and a bit more about 2 degrees, so you have the better parts and all that is necessary for the upgrade.

Bill,
I agree with Terry re: 11A being an up grade. If you notice however the ramps
on the rotor shaft ( those openings that accept the guide pins on the weights) appear to be ground out. You may have jury rigged parts....but it'll run.
