41 door spring, how does this work?

Hi guys I have a 41 coupe and this spring pictured broke and the handle and door latch won't work. How does this go in? Does anyone have any drawings or diagrams on how the door mechanism works? My friend and I have had no success in making this work. Any help is appreciated

That's great thanks. In order to replace it how do I get the mechanism out ?

Pry open the two tabs that hold the spring to remove it.
Hold the center tang of the new spring with suitable pliers/vice grips,etc.
Place the long tang against the back of the lock tongue and twist the spring to fit back between the tabs and reset the tabs.

Thanks 51.. We can't take seem to separate the mechanism from the door handle in order to work on it. How do we do that?

Try tipping the handle down about 30 degrees and pull outward.
