Can't you just put one of those cute little engines on an old coffee table? Or just pick it up and carry it around?

Hmm..ha, I was just contemplating installation on the back of my 94 yr old fatherinlaws whl chr..he authorized it
FYI- if you lived in lalaland, there are a hundred shopping carts all over the streets/sidewalks/your front lawn/etc... I just cut the bottom (with whls) appropriately and put the 60 and/or 4cyl on that...cheap/effective/endless supply!

Thanks to JE 35 sedan, at least. My other thread is about oil in the water (foam) so I'm not in a very good mood, I guess. Thanks, JE.

John,

The V8-60's are light, I use those common generic engine stands bolted to the bell housing. I know others here will say don't do it, and that is true for the larger V-8's, but I have a couple of 60's hanging on stands for 20 + years so far with no troubles.

And yes, I too used to store engines on chopped down shopping carts and yes, I have loaded fully dressed V8 60's into the back of my truck without a hoist, just one guy on each side of the 60, lift it up and set in on a tire in the truck bed.

That's my dad working on the pretty one...

Some heavy flatbar and a piece of 2-1/2" pipe and make the copy of a KR wilson adapter for a pep boys engine stand.
A 60 is lighter then a 85 ect but the leverage on the bell bolts can send you to the hospital without warning
Do it right or don't bother at all

I believe it's ~ $39.00 for stand and ~$60.00 for the adapter + S&H. I like to make things as well but by the time you get materials together, make all the right cuts, drill holes required, weld parts together, clean everything and paint, I can't see how you can beat Stumpy's quality work and prices.

Depends on your talent. With a full machine shop its a piece of cake. With a claw hammer and a hacksaw your better off buying one. Either way your safer then hanging it off the bell housing but its not my feet under the motor

Wink Re: engine stand for V8-60

Here's (2) more of my V8 60's on conventional engine stands. Went back and checked my notes, these additional (2) have not been "hanging on the bell housings" for (20+) years like the other (2), these have only been hanging for (19) years and (3) months so far.

The outdoor one is a 37 stainless steel side 60 that has some bad cylinder walls, the other one next to my drafting board in my office looks to be a 40 with the fan mount on the crank snout.

Do it right or don't do it at all ? Nah, I'm doing what works for me.

Now the disclaimer for any of the uppity types;

Your mileage may vary, objects in your mirror may be closer than they appear.

Stumpy makes a good looking bracket. When you have the engine on a conventional stand by the bell housing you can't remove the oil pan and that's why that doesn't work.

Mr Spadaro has provided me with some advice that may help me cure the water in the oil problem.

John, I CAN remove the oil pan while these 60's are on a conventional engine stand...it works fine.
