Default battery ground on 49 F3

The ground cable on the 49 had multiple issues so I was going for upgrade, Pulled the head bolt and got a geyser of coolant. Not as simple a swap as I thought. Tightened her back up for now.

I hate to ground to head bolt. But the old 6V starter needs the best chance it can get. Thought about getting a long cable to running it somewhere else on the engine. The ground strap stud is a bit far away, maybe a starter bolt would work. Need to look some more. I don't care about original on this one, but no desire to convert to 12 volt either.

41 mercury has the same modification. It is a stud and nut on the heads so a bit easier to deal with. Since that one is a 12 volt now it would probably work OK if I went back to original ground to firewall, I am trying to track down the way it was supposed to look.

I suspect Henry did it that way to make them easier to assemble but it was a crappy starter ground setup.

ground out to about any bolt on the trans, bell housing, intake-just clean the surface real good. I use a little of bulb grease, etc to seal the connection

Also be sure it is heavy enough gauge for a 6v system which has about twice the current of a 12v system.

If that is anything like the passenger car there is a boss on the head for the ground strap. I am running a stock 6 volt setup with no problems.

Are you talking about the boss they use for the strap to the firewall? I can look some more.

Look between the two lower headbolts at the front of the engine. If your battery is in the driver side front as a passenger car is that is where the battery ground goes. There is an additional strap from the engine to firewall, though much smaller.
