Default Play in rt axle with hub removed

First model a, starting with the rear brakes and noticed more up and down movement in the rt exle then the left, is this something to be concerned about, and should i be looking deeper.

No, it's a 3/4 floating axle design that when the hub/drum is installed that it is "centered " in the housing by the hub bearing within the hub and on the axle housing.
A little upward movement and left right is OK. You don't want excessive movement in and out if you grab the axle shaft and try and move that.

Make sure your axle threads, keyways, and nut are in excellent shape. If the axle threads are not good you may need an axle and/or rear end rebuild.
I usually torque the rear axle nut to 125- 150 ft lb's. It's imperative the proper rear axle thick washer be on as well.

When the rear hubs are off of the axles, the axles drop down onto the grease seals inside of the axle housings. If left in that position for several days, weeks or more, the seal will set out of round and leak. A neoprene seal with a spring should recover its shape, but a leather seal like the OEM may not recover its shape and leak.

So it is a good idea to put the hubs temporarily back onto the axles if your work project will take a few days or more.
