valve cover paint
what to paint my valve covers on '58 ford 332? Hi-temp primer and then hi-temp paint finish or have them powder coated?

Re: valve cover paint
Either should work fine as long as the surface prep work is done well.
I don't know what powder coating costs but unless it's for a super nice show car it may not be worth the investment. |

Re: valve cover paint
Back in the ol days, there was no hi-temp primer available to the public round here anyways. I just used regular grey automotive primer, then Hi-temp gloss black engine enamel on the rocker covers for my '55, 292V8. That was back in the 1980's and they still look like brand new. Prior to painting, I had tripped them to bare metal and sanded off the rust spots and polished the whole thing with fine steel wool, acetone bath, then primered. But now, Hi-temp primer spray cans are in every hardware store, so you shouldn't need to worry either way. I have always used 160 degree thermostat.

Re: valve cover paint
I can't think of how many I did with just engine paint, no primer. Get them squeaky clean, degrease as much as possible then give them a good wash with dishwashing soap. Heck, I'd throw them in the dishwasher.
