Pitting on 1935 Ford 16" rims
I have 6 - original 1935 Ford 16" rims with varying degrees of pitting.
What is a good way to "fill" the pits? I'm thinking 2 part fillers; thick primer-surfacer; 2 part epoxy or other? The spokes are not too bad, but minor pitting still exists. Your good ways? What and how to apply and smooth out. Lotsa time, I would guess.. Larry

As you likely know, the most important step in leveling out the pits are to first remove all rust from the crater. Elsewise, filler will eventually pop out. Soda blasting would be preferred method.
Are you planning to paint or powder coat? PC is baked to cure and most body fillers can't take the heat.

Soda blasting isn't good at removing rust. I'd use the regular Black Beauty or some other aggressive media.

I should have stated that all 6 have been sand blasted. Now to the original concerns?
Thank you! Larry

Soda is also SALT. Do you want salt embedded in your wheels? It is difficult to remove all the soda. I followed directions for washing off the salt and still am getting rust under my new paint job. No more soda blasting for me. I like cold blasting much better or immersing in Ospho phosphoric acid.

If you are painting, I would prime with PPG epoxy DP90, and if you are painting the wheels black, I would use tintable primer surfacer with some DCC93 to tint black. Then sand, and apply the top coat.

Re: Pitting on 1935 Ford 16" rims
Larry, one of mine had a little pitting on the outer rim in one spot. My son hand sanded that area to bare metal and used a two part filler like you mentioned. Sanded it smooth, filler primer, paint. That was 6+ years ago and it still looks good. I think you're on the right track.
