Default 37 Deluxe Coupe with a 11" clutch?

So, from a recent previous post you may know that I pulled my 21-stud engine and transmission from my 37 Coupe. I did this to reseal both and resurface the flywheel and replace the clutch and pressure plate. Ring gear was worn so I order a new one and had that replaced when the flywheel was resurfaced. The issue is that the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate are an 11" setup, which I now see is for a truck. (My first flathead) I know that engine was rebuilt at some point, as the crank is stamped .020 under. The transmission S/N does not match the frame S/N just FYI. After I bought the car, I did the normal maintenance items and had Skip rebuild the coil and Michael at Third Gen rework the distributor, and the engine runs great and has good acceleration even having a couple slightly lower compression reading cylinders. Also has a Columbia rear end and this thing moves along nicely at highway speeds. Should I just go back with the 11"? Or attempt to locate a flywheel for the 9" setup. After a quick search, that may be a challenge. Nate

Did the 11" clutch and pressure plate work okay? It seems like overkill but if it worked why change it?

Purchased the car in 2019 and put maybe 1500 mile going to local car shows and just goofing off. Runs great. Clutch wasn't slipping but was at its adjustment limit.

I'd say put a new disk and pressure plate on and go. Otherwise you'll need to find a '37 flywheel and a 9' pressure plate and disk.

Have the flywheel redrilled for a 9" clutch plate. Use the best shouldered bolts as possible.

There is nothing wrong with an 11"clutch. It's a bit heavy and isn't necessary in a car. either is a 10". However, what's done is done. I use anly the9.5 but that eon't work with the early trans/
Gramps PS indina clutch can beef up a 9"

If the 11 inch works well, keep it.

Well, it was working fine, and since I have already replaced the ring gear and had it resurfaced, that is what I will do. Appreciate everyone's input as always. Nate Anello

If this car has been running a 11" clutch look in the front of the transmission bell housing for marks that the pressure plate may be hitting the casting.

Terry, I appreciate your question and checked the transmission bell housing and find no witness marks where it could have been rubbing. I had no unusual noise in the driveline in the 4 years I have been driving the car prior to disassemble. Serial number of transmission, although it doesn't match the frame number, does show transmission is a 1937 era.

But I am curious now, is this a common / known issue with the 11" pressure plate rubbing on trans housing or back of engine upper trans housing? Nate
