Default Front springs

I'm working on a 1930 Tudor. This car was in an accident and I've replaced the axel, perches, and springs with old original. The front u- bolts (5") appear to be about 3/4 of inch too long . There are 10 leafs to the group just like the originals and measure the same height when bolted together. should I make up the difference with a thick washer or just drill new holes for the cotter pins?

The rebuilt spring was professionally re-arched to the proper measurements.

Some of the repop U-bolts are too long. Maybe you have a pair of those or later Ford U-bolts that are longer also. Rod

You didn't mention the spring lower plate....is it installed and right-side-up?

As you can see I have the opposite problem..bolts are too short!..or maybe mine is up-side-down..?

Here's a picture of my 28 Phaeton with original parts.
Notice how the bottom of the 10 leaf spring pack comes about even with the bottom of the front crossmember.

I've seen repro U bolts that are too long, so I've had to redrill the cotter holes and cut off the excess bolts.

Mine sits flush like Tom's. I wonder if the spring bolt wasn't cut and peened short enough and is fetching up in the recess of the bottom plate.

Shed a little light on it. Maybe easier to see the condition.
