Engine stalls at full throttle
"29 Tudor stock engine, when driving at full throttle afterv a short while the engine stops like it is getting no fuel,i step on the clutch and wait a couple of seconds and push the starter and it runs again.
When i am driving at slow speed there is no problem, only when the engine has to work. My guess was a fuel blockage so what did i do? Drained the fuel tank and cleaned it(no debri found)fueltank closing device(don't know the name in english)cleaned, fuel lines are clean, sediment bowl was full of rust, removed and replaced by a piece of fuel line, cleaned the carburettor. When i open the tank with the carburettor disconnected the fuel pours out the lines like hell so there is no blockage at all. Car was en is running great, nothing has chanched,i can drive all day but when is has to work it stalls, anyone got an idea?

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
Is your fuel cap venting? might be partially plugged. Get it to act up, pull over and loosten the cap and drive the same stretch of road and if the problem no longer exists id clean the fuel cap.

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
Sounds like the classic problem of the fuel line pushed too far into the carb. The end hits the screen and the flow area is only the small openings within the ID of the tube. It probably won't go up a hill. Give it a circumcision of about 1/8 in.

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
If you have a fuel filter, remove it.
Are you sure your timing is set correctly? Steve |

No filter Timing is correct, engine runs beautiful. Did not chance the float level, never had this problem before,it just came up a couple of days ago. At first i thought it was a timing issue, cleaned the points, set the gap,set the timing using a test light, have a blue spark you can weld with, engine starts at first turn............it only stalls when it has to work, that is using all horsepower there is. Accellerating from 0 to 90km/h in one run......it stalls before 90km/h is there

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
René, are you fully advancing the timing at full throttle?
If so, next time retard the timing a bit. Might be a loose connection at the short wire in the distributor. ( under the points plate) Had this happen to me on one of my cars. Loose nut on the wire, and a loose nut behind the steering wheel! . Good Luck! Jeff

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
What is different at full throttle is that the cylinders are taking in the maximum charge of air/fuel mix. That increases the pressure in the combustion chamber, and makes it harder for a spark to jump the spark plug gap. The voltage upstream of the plug will then build to a higher level and try to jump to ground via an alternate path that it might not ordinarily utilize.
Check the spark plug gaps and clean the ceramics. Inspect/clean/replace the coil and distributor cap/body/wiring. These are things that could have changed without you doing anything. However, I would also expect some backfiring. |

Did you clean the filter inside the carb?

The fuel line was way to deep into the carb but because it is a battered line and plug i just ordered a new fuel line,i hope that solve the problem. I also re-checked the ingnition system but could not find any problem there,if the condenser is bad i will find out when the fuel line is mounted and the problem is still there.................i.ll be back!

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
Just make sure you put the ferrule near the end of the fuel line. Don't hit the screen.

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
When you tighten the nut, it will squeeze (crimp) the ferrule so it will grab the tube. If you get a female threaded fitting, you will be able to see how much is extended past the ferrule as you tighten.

Re: Engine stalls at full throttle
Or it could be the fuel line, Good practice is to do only change at a time with test drive between changes. That way you will always know the real answer. Feedback is the best teacher.
