assholes, everybody has one but.....why no Model A? I think the Model A should be close to the top along with the T-Bird!!! It's there but no Model A!!! Maybe I'm biased but common sense even says different....IMO!!!!

I thought the same thing. The Model A was one of Henry's major accomplishments, thanks in part to his Son, Edsel, who did the major design work.

I think everyone on this forum would agree with you. If the average person knows about old cars, I think they would cite the Model T and the V8, not the Model A.

The A was revolutionary in its own way, but maybe more evolutionary. For the old car hobbyist, I think the A is the number 1 car to own: relatively inexpensive, reliable, simple, plentiful, a great parts network and able to operate on most roads. But we are all very biased. ;-)

The article says the best 20 Ford cars, yet they include the F1/F100/F150 series 3 times, a Lincoln and the Mercury Capri. Obviously its someones opinion. At least the T made the list.

.....and was probably paid thousands for that opinion too!!!! That article could drop the value of Model As too, good for newbees but not so good for resale value by owners......of course I'm only spitting out opinions here.

Yea i would easily replace the raptor with model A. Raptor is nothing more than a normal F150 with a lift kit, LCA's, and biggest engine they offer - no wonder its "one of fords most profitable" because it cost barely anymore to build than a standard f150 but 4X the price tag...

Someone got paid to write this article the way it is...

Except for durability, what does the A really offer. While it was a leap from the T it was not as compared with the V-8.

I'm a Model A guy --that's why I own one... Now if you think of the Model T over its production run it evolved from the 1909 brass car to the 1927 version which was the starting point for the Model A design. Ford clearly took things from the 1927 Model T to make a better car, the 1928 Model A,and added a better engine, a modern at the time transmission, just to name a few but with all due to respect to the car I love, it is an evolved 1927 Model T and the reason most folks who are not old cars folks miss label the Model A as a Model T (95% of the people I pass in the car ask if it's a model T). Evolution design is a good thing.... Just look at anything that comes out of Stuttgart, Germany which I happen to visit about 20 years ago and toured a few of the auto factories there.


That said, I think that starting the 1933 Ford with a V8 was more of game changer with its looks and engine, their only curse was the engine drew the hot rod folks and very few exists as the were built. The blessing of the model A was that it had the low power 4 cylinder so less attractive make it into a rod.

If you were to take a number of people, their opinion as to the best vehicles would not be the same. I personally think the Model A was a huge step forward for Ford to get away from the Model T. There were other car companies that had improvements in automotive development that was ahead of Ford at the time, but the A was a huge step forward. What amazes me is that the amount of engineering that went into the A that was accomplished in such a short time, without the aid of computers and Cadam and produced a vehicle that still is around today in large numbers. No other vehicle from that era is still around in the numbers that the Model A have.

I did not know that Ford made the AC Cobra (other than the engine).

Also, I do not think they built the Formula One Lotus, only supplied some engine parts.

Finally, the Ford Prefect was one of the worst engineered, poorly performing apologies for a car that it was ever my misfortune to drive.

I owned a '77 Capri II and bought it new. The only list it belongs are the 20 worst cars Ford built. It was by far the most unreliable car I've ever owned.

They probably figure the 'T' was innovative for the day as Henry was producing it with the idea of making it affordable to the common folk first and foremost instead of primarily seeking a large profit. The 'A' was a definite improvement but it was also surpassed by the 'B' with the V-8.
Personally, I think the 'A' is the more functional when compared with the 'T' and it also is alot more affordable than the 'B'. Heck of alot simpler to maintain as well....

Like the title says "opinions are like....", The author put down his opinion. I happen to agree that the A was not a "game changer" for Ford. It allowed Ford to stay i the game, but not change it. The A was styled like many others of the day, it still had a 4 cyl while others were going to 6, and I love my A.
