Backing Plate Bolts

When I removed my rear brake backing plates bolts they lacked cotters . I now know why they were the wrong nuts too tall to line up with the hole in the bolt .The nut on the right if the photo shows .

Thanks Tom my problem was opposite with the wrong nuts I was unable to run down enough to uncover bolt cotter hole . Hopefully I have the right nuts in a can somewhere .
